Young You Magazine Discontinued

ANN has reported on the upcoming discontinuation of Young You, a magazine aimed at adult women that has published favorites such as Honey and Clover. ANN has translated the article in full on their site, a snippet of which can be read below:

It has been almost 20 years since “YOUNG YOU” was first published in 1986. As a manga magazine designed for adult women, YOUNG YOU has published close to 350 volumes, including supplemental issues.

Many of the titles that have appeared in YOUNG YOU have been able to earnestly portray fashionable and beautiful stories of women growing up. The magazine has produced many hit series, many of which were made into TV dramas and Anime.

Yukari Ichijo Manga adaptations are on top of Japanese TV

Two manga by Yukari Ichijo, Designer and Tadashii Ren’ai no Susume (Advice for Sane Romance) currently have live-action adaptations airing on Japan’s TBS network.

The two series come from very different periods of her career and were created for the same audience, but for very different perdiods in that audience’s life. In 1974 Designer was serialised in Ribbon Magazine, a shoujo magazine geared towards elementary school girls.

Tadashii Ren’ai no Susume was released some twenty years later and was serialised in Young You, a magazine for adult women.

Today Ichijo’s manga are particularly popular with women in their 30s and 40s who have been following her career since they were children and the two TV series are succeding in the afternoon soap-opera slot.

Takuhai Undergoes Name Change

This seemed relevant, since I’ve reported on Takuhai a few times before (the most recent of which being yesterday):

Tokyopop has changed the name of their Takuhai magazine to Manga Magazine. According to an editorial included in issue #2 this change was made to reflect the fact that the magazine will now be available at bookstores and newsstands. As “Takuhai” means “Home Delivery” it was felt that name was no longer appropriate. The magazine will remain completely free.

Upcoming Tokyopop Licenses

Image obtained from Google - Someday's Dreamers Tokyopop has confirmed a number of new licenses for English manga they will be publishing in the upcoming seasons. Battle Club, Gacha Gacha, Last Fantasy, Made in Heaven, Neba Giba! and Someday’s Dreamers are the announced titles, as well as some additional non-tankubon publications, such as a DN Angel artbook and Gravitation novel. All are planned for March 2006.

While most of these are relatively obscure titles on this side of the pond, Someday’s Dreamers (pictured at right) was also known as Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto, and the 2003 anime is fairly well-known. I know I’m looking forward to seeing the manga version!
